Pinterest Video Download Not Working? 9 Fixes That Actually Help

Link rejected, download button doing nothing, or file saving as 0 KB? Here is what actually causes each Pinterest download failure and how to fix it.

Why Your Pinterest Video Download Fails

Almost every failed Pinterest download comes down to one of three things: the link does not point at a real video, the pin is not publicly viewable, or the device blocked the file after it downloaded successfully. The error you see rarely tells you which one it was.

Work through the checks below in order. They are arranged from most to least common, so most people stop at fix three.

1. You Copied a Board Link, Not a Pin Link

This is the single most frequent cause. A board URL looks like pinterest.com/username/boardname/ and contains dozens of pins but no single video. A pin URL contains a long numeric ID, like pinterest.com/pin/1234567890123456/.

Open the video itself first so it fills the screen, then use Share and Copy Link. If your pasted link has no /pin/ in it, that is your problem.

2. The Pin Is an Image, Not a Video

Pinterest shows animated previews for some still images, and Idea Pins mix photos and clips on separate pages. If the pin never shows a play button or a duration counter, there is no video file to extract. Downloading the image instead is the fix.

How to tell the difference in two seconds

  • A video pin shows a duration or a sound toggle in a corner
  • An Idea Pin shows page dots along the top edge
  • A still image pin shows neither

3. The Pin Is Private, Deleted, or Region-Locked

Downloaders can only reach pins that a logged-out visitor could reach. Pins on secret boards, pins from accounts set to private, and pins removed after a copyright claim all fail even though the link still works while you are logged in.

Test it yourself: open the same link in a private or incognito window without logging in. If Pinterest shows an error or a login wall there, no downloader can retrieve it.

4. You Pasted a pin.it Link That Has Expired

Short pin.it links redirect to the full pin URL, and most tools resolve them automatically. But these links expire, and they occasionally break when shared through messaging apps that rewrite URLs. Open the short link in a browser, wait for it to land on the full URL, then copy that URL from the address bar.

5. Extra Characters Got Attached to the Link

Copying from a chat app often drags along tracking parameters, a trailing bracket, or an invisible space. Everything from the question mark onward can usually be deleted:

  • Broken: pinterest.com/pin/123456789/?utm_source=share&invite=abc
  • Clean: pinterest.com/pin/123456789/

6. The Download Starts but the File Is 0 KB

A zero-byte file means the transfer was interrupted rather than refused. Switching from mobile data to Wi-Fi fixes it most of the time, because large HD files time out on unstable connections. Choosing a lower quality tier also helps, since a 480p file completes where a 1080p file stalls.

7. Your Browser Blocked the Download

Chrome, Safari, and Edge all silently block downloads in some situations. Look for a small icon in the address bar, a banner at the bottom of the screen, or a notification asking for permission. On iPhone, Safari asks once per site and remembers a refusal, so if you tapped Cancel earlier you will never be asked again.

Resetting a blocked download on iPhone

  1. Open Settings, then Safari, then Downloads
  2. Confirm a save location is selected
  3. Return to the site and start the download again

8. An Ad Blocker or VPN Is Interfering

Aggressive content blockers sometimes cancel the request that fetches the video file, and some VPN exit nodes are blocked by Pinterest servers entirely. Disable both for one attempt to see whether the download completes.

9. The Video Downloaded but You Cannot Find It

Nothing failed here, the file is just not where you expected. On Android the file lands in the Downloads folder rather than the gallery, and it can take a few minutes to appear in Photos. On iPhone, files saved through Safari go to the Files app under Downloads, not to Photos, unless you saved them there deliberately.

Still Not Working?

If a pin fails every check above, try a second pin from a different account. If that one downloads, the first pin is restricted at the source and nothing on your end will change that. If nothing downloads at all, the issue is your network or browser rather than Pinterest.

Quick Reference

  • Link rejected: wrong URL type, copy the pin rather than the board
  • No video found: the pin is a still image or an Idea Pin
  • Nothing happens on tap: the browser blocked the download
  • 0 KB file: unstable connection, switch network or lower the quality
  • File missing: check Downloads, not the photo gallery
